Treasured all over the world, Shona Art remains accessible to a wide spectrum of collectors. Pieces range in price from £90.00 to several thousand. Each sculpture is a unique, one-off work carved from the raw stone with simple hand-held, non-mechanical tools. The stones used come from the varieties of Serpentine that are found in Zimbabwe with more than 200 natural colour and texture variations. The result is a diverse body of work alive with dynamic, spiritual themes. Looking at many of the works one imagines that these artists are emulating their European peers but very few of them have seen European works of art let alone had any formal art training, as we know it. Shona sculpture is steeped in the legend and traditions of an ancient African culture.
